Biography
A proud alumna of Texas Christian University, Sarah Peterson's commitment to service and justice has been the cornerstone of her career. Graduating in June 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in History, Sarah immediately transitioned her passion for leadership and service into a distinguished 10-year tenure with the United States Coast Guard. From July 2007 to September 2017, she dedicated herself to the nation's maritime security, environmental stewardship, and maritime law enforcement, serving in a myriad of roles across various locations, safeguarding the integrity of our nation’s maritime borders and upholding the highest standards of the service.
With an unwavering resolve to further her ability to serve the public, Sarah pursued a legal education at the Illinois Institute of Technology's Chicago-Kent College of Law, where her dedication to legal excellence and public service shone brightly. Her academic journey culminated in May 2020 with a Juris Doctor degree, not only earning certificates in Public Interest and Legal Innovation + Technology but also receiving the esteemed Dean’s Distinguished Service Award in recognition of her extraordinary commitment to volunteer service, amassing over 250 hours.
Upon entering the legal profession, Sarah joined Land of Lincoln Legal Aid in Springfield, Illinois. From August 2020 to January 2023, she was a beacon of hope for low-income individuals navigating the complexities of housing and benefits issues. Her advocacy extended to practicing family law and securing orders of protection for survivors of domestic violence, where her strategic acumen and compassionate approach made a tangible difference in the lives of those she served.
Briefly delving into insurance defense with Ford & Britton, P.C., Sarah gained valuable insights into the private sector's intricacies. This experience enriched her legal repertoire and reaffirmed her dedication to client-centered advocacy.
In August 2023, Sarah embarked on a new chapter with DebtStoppers, where her robust legal expertise, technological acumen, and fervent dedication to public service continue to drive her efforts in aiding individuals to navigate financial hardships with dignity and comprehensive legal support.
